Your active ARK roster should include every student enrolled at your school (grades 2 and up for ARK Religion and grades K and up for ARK Academics) or, at minimum, every student you are testing this year. If your school only tests certain grades, please keep those students active in ARK during their gap years.
Students are promoted a grade automatically each year, so they will already be rostered and ready when they return to a testing grade. ARK automatically releases graduating students from your active roster and moves them to the "Former Students" tab on the Students page, where they can be reactivated if needed.
Before You Roster: Release Non-Returning Students
Each year, before updating your roster and adding newly enrolled students, identify and release any non-returning students — those added to ARK last year who are no longer attending your school. Releasing them first gives you a smaller list to work from when you add new students.
To identify which students need to be released, compare your ARK roster against your school's current active student list in your SIS, or use a withdrawal, inactive, or "no longer enrolled" list from your SIS to identify students who have left.
Releasing Students in ARK
To release a single student,
1. Go to Students in the main sidebar menu.
2. Click the three-dot menu next to their name and select Release.
OR
To release multiple students,
1. Go to Students in the main sidebar menu.
2. Use the checkboxes to select one or more students
3. Click the red Release button at the top right of the page.
4. Type RELEASE into the box (case sensitive).
5. Click Confirm and Release.
Note: It's possible to select and release all students, then import your active roster. This will create accounts for new students and reactivate any students who were previously rostered and released. Only use this option if you're confident your active roster from your school's SIS is accurate and you're comfortable using the import feature, as all students will need to be re-added to ARK.
You can also reactivate students manually from the Former Students tab, but only one at a time.
Next Step
Once your non-returning students are released, you're ready to add this year's roster. See
