Once your students are loaded into ARK, there are two ways to get them into a Testing Section: via Class duplication (recommended), or manual direct assignment. Almost all schools should use Class duplication, as this option is much faster.
If your students are already assigned to their Classes, the fastest and most reliable path is to duplicate each Class as a Testing Section — ARK copies the whole roster over in just a few clicks. Manually assigning students to a Testing Section (in bulk or one at a time) is available, but it's meant for exceptions, like a student who tests separately from their class, not for building out your sections in the first place.
This is the fastest way to populate Testing Sections, and it's the right choice for nearly every school. Because Testing Sections mirror your Classes, duplicating a Class instantly creates a matching Testing Section with the same students already in it — no manual selection needed.
Before you start: make sure every student is added to their Class. Testing Sections created this way only include students who are already on the Class roster.
Why duplicate instead of assigning manually? Your Classes already have the right students in the right groups. Duplicating reuses that work instead of making you rebuild it student by student in a Testing Section. If you find yourself selecting students one at a time to add them to a Testing Section, it usually means this step got skipped.
Use these methods only when a student needs to be added to a Testing Section outside of their Class — for example, a student testing with a different group, or a late enrollment that missed the duplication step. If you're setting up Testing Sections for the first time, use Duplicate above instead.
Option A: Bulk assignment (by grade or selection)
Best when you need to add several students — or even just one — directly to a Testing Section without going through their Class.
Option B: Individual assignment (one student, from the Testing Section)
Best when you're already looking at a specific Testing Section and want to add one student to it directly.
Quick summary: Get students into their Classes first, then use Duplicate on the Classes list to create Testing Sections in one step. Only fall back to bulk or individual assignment for one-off exceptions
