New this year (2024-2025), we have implemented a new feature. In the student import template, there now MUST be a School Student ID for the template to upload into the ARK tool.
We recognize that any Parish that is testing will not have school Student IDs for their students. Therefore, to get the file to upload for parishes, we simply have to make up student ID numbers.
There's a quick little trick to do this in excel while filling out the template which is explained in steps below.
Step #1: Pick any number you choose for the first Student ID (for this example, the number will be 1, but you can make it any number). Put that number in Row 2 of the excel spread sheet underneath the column School Student ID
Step #2: In row 3 of the excel spreadsheet, in the cell directly below the number you just put, enter the following excel formula: =sum(K2+1)
Step #3: Press enter. The resulting number that displays in the cell should be one more than your original number
Step #4: Select the cell with the formula along with the rest of cells in the School Student ID column that also need numbers. For this example, we will assume that there are 10 students that need ID numbers.
Step #5: Click the fill button in the editing section of the home tab at the top right hand side of the screen. Then select "Down" from the dropdown menu
Step #6: The column should autopopulate with numbers that are each one more in succession than the one above it. Next, select all the numbers in the column, right click on the column, and press copy
Step #7: Lastly, right click on the column again, and press the button with the clipboard and numbers, also known as the "paste values" button. This will remove any remains of the formula from the spreadsheet which is helpful if there's ever a need to edit things or move them around
That's it! You've created fake School Student IDs for your Parish Students! Congratulations!
